A feature in Berita Harian that meant a great deal to me — an article titled “Tingginya ilmu teknologi Melayu terbukti dalam pembuatan keris.”
It explored what I’ve always believed deeply: that the keris is not merely a weapon or heirloom, but a testament to the scientific, artistic, and technological sophistication of the Malay world. Every line, every fold of pamor, every curve in the blade tells a story of metallurgy, philosophy, and mastery passed down through centuries.
When the journalist visited my gallery, we spoke at length about how modern minds often overlook the genius embedded in traditional craftsmanship. The Malay smiths of old were not just artisans — they were engineers, chemists, and philosophers in their own right.
This feature reminded me that heritage is not nostalgia; it’s knowledge encoded in form and function. The keris, when studied deeply, reveals not superstition — but science.
To preserve it is to honour that intelligence.
To share it is to keep that brilliance alive.
