Heritage Experiences

History looks different when you begin with the object, the street and the people who lived there.

The Keris Collector creates private and small-group cultural experiences for visitors who want to move beyond familiar sightseeing narratives.

Our experiences connect place with material culture, food, memory, trade, identity and the historical forces that shaped Singapore.

Not Just Where. Why.

A conventional tour often tells you what a building is and when it was built.

We are interested in the next questions.

Why was it here?

Who used it?

What surrounded it?

What objects moved through this space?

How did people dress, trade, worship, eat and organise their lives?

What changed?

What survived?

And what does the place mean today?

This is the difference between simply seeing a place and trying to understand it.

Kampong Glam

The Seat of Malay Royalty

Kampong Glam is often encountered today through colourful streets, cafés and the unmistakable dome of Sultan Mosque.

But beneath the contemporary district lies a much larger story.

Walk through Singapore’s former Malay royal precinct and examine how royalty, trade, migration, religion, colonial intervention and changing identities shaped the neighbourhood we see today.

This is not simply a walk from landmark to landmark.

It is an attempt to understand what the place meant, who occupied it, what changed and what remains.

Lunch With The Keris Collector

Food, Objects & Stories Around The Singapore Table

Some of the best conversations about culture do not happen inside museums.

They happen around tables.

Lunch With The Keris Collector brings together traditional local cuisine, material culture and conversation in an intimate small-group setting hosted by Pak JoFe.

The meal provides the setting.

Conversation is the experience.

Singapore Beyond The Postcard

Singapore is often reduced to a familiar collection of images.

The skyline. Marina Bay. Clean streets. Efficient infrastructure.

This experience looks beyond those surfaces and explores the cultural layers, contradictions and everyday histories that shaped the city.

The objective is not to avoid Singapore’s famous landmarks.

It is to see them with more context.

Private & Custom Experiences

Not every interesting visitor fits neatly into a fixed itinerary.

If your interests involve a particular aspect of Singapore history, Malay heritage, collecting, material culture or selected neighbourhoods, tell us what you are hoping to understand.

Where the subject falls within our area of practice, we can develop a private experience around your interests.

Who These Experiences Are For

Curious Travellers

Visitors who want more than a standard city tour.

Researchers & Academics

Visitors looking for local context and specialist conversation.

Singapore Residents

People who want to see familiar places differently.

Corporate & Private Guests

Small groups seeking something more meaningful than generic entertainment.

Collectors

Those interested in objects, craftsmanship and material culture.

Cultural Organisations

Groups interested in customised heritage experiences.

Why Small Groups?

Good cultural conversation becomes difficult when a group becomes a crowd.

We favour private and small-group formats because they leave space for questions, discussion and some flexibility according to the interests of participants.

The aim is not simply to deliver information.

It is to create a better conversation with the place.

Your Host

Khairi Johari, better known as Pak JoFe, has collected and studied kerises since 1997.

As founder of The Keris Collector and a licensed Singapore tourist guide, he brings a collector’s perspective into the interpretation of place, history and material culture.

His approach begins with objects and evidence, then follows the connections into people, trade, identity and the wider cultural world surrounding them.

Looking For Something More Personal?

Tell us who you are travelling with, what interests you and what you hope to understand.

If The Keris Collector is the right fit, we can recommend an existing experience or explore a customised one.
